Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) Implementing Comprehensive NTI Trainings Statewide!

Launching the NTI Child Welfare Professionals and Supervisors training in January 2021!

Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) is thrilled to have the opportunity to implement the engaging comprehensive NTI trainings statewide, as a part of the growing national initiative. These trainings are evidence-based and standardized, designed with the goal of infusing practice with skills for enabling children from foster, adoption, and kinship families to heal from trauma and loss with improved outcomes.

DFPS is preparing to launch the NTI Child Welfare Professionals training and Child Welfare Supervisors training in January 2021 with a kick-off scheduled for December 2020. All Texas DFPS adoption supervisors and adoption caseworkers are planning to complete the NTI training. Adoption supervisors will check in with staff about the knowledge, skills, and tools acquired through NTI to assist in applying this to their work with families.

Partnering with Texas Alliance of Child and Family Services (TACFS), DFPS will roll this program out to not only Child Protective Services staff but also child-placing agency staff. This partnership allows all professionals in the Child Welfare continuum to begin speaking the same language around adoption and permanency. DFPS and TACFS launched the program in two pilot areas in Texas. These areas will provide feedback throughout their experience to ensure that the statewide launch is successful.

The knowledge gained from this training is invaluable for Texas and will shape how staff work with families moving forward, improving permanency outcomes for children adopted from Texas foster care.
