In this Strengthening Your Family webinar, Mya Zavaleta is a nature occupational therapist who empowers families to understand how to support their children’s big feelings and some signs of sensory processing difficulties. She will share a bit of her own adoption story and how nature has impacted her personal wellbeing. Mya will walk through examples of what ecotherapy looks like “in the wild” as she supports her young clients outdoors and how attendees can apply strategies and shift mindsets at home.

Presenter

Mya Zavaleta is a proud mama to two teen boys who are my greatest teachers and keep me on my toes, plus her 10lb shih-tzu who is her healer and snuggler-extraordinaire. Mya is incredibly fortunate to be able to combine her love for nature with almost 20-years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist to create her own Nature OT practice to help kids become calmer, connected, and coordinated. That means they skill-build while exploring in the woods together in San Luis Obispo, CA. Mya supports her neurodivergent kids (ADHD, Autistic, Sensory Difficulties, Anxiety) and kids that have experienced trauma and adoption from toddlerhood to teenagedom.

Mya believes in helping every child discover their own superpowers and feel more confident and grounded to live life with greater joy and ease. Mya offers group sessions, individual treatments, and virtual family coaching to my clients and their families. Mya applies her lived experience as an adoptee (from El Salvador at 5 years old) and complex-trauma survivor with neurodivergence to support and meet her clients’ individual needs.
