Webinar #3 Agenda:

This session will take a deeper dive into NTI’s Module 4: “How Race, Ethnicity, Culture and Diversity Impact the Adoption and Guardianship Experience of Mental Health Needs of Children and Youth.” We will focus on understanding challenges in diverse families, the development of racial identity, and skills to promote courageous conversations about race/ethnicity/culture in transracial and transcultural placements. See tools and resources designed to build awareness, explore the concepts of implicit and explicit bias, microaggressions, bullying and discrimination, and enhance the skills of child welfare and mental health professionals to better meet the needs of children and families.

Key Learning Objectives:

  • Increase understanding of the impact of personal biases on work with children, youth and families.
  • Understand the process of racial identity development throughout the lifespan.
  • Facilitate parent’s understanding of how racial identity, bias, discrimination, and racism in transracial families impacts children’s mental health.
