NTI was funded through a cooperative agreement between the Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) and the Children’s Bureau.
We created two state-of-the-art web-based trainings for (1) child welfare and (2) mental health professionals. NTI was piloted and evaluated over a two-year period in 9 sites across the U.S. Refinements based on pilot evaluation and feedback are complete and NTI is now ready for implementing in your area!
Because of traumatic life experiences and compromised beginnings—especially for those who experienced foster care or orphanage care, many children and youth who are adopted or in guardianship experience elevated risks for developmental, health, emotional, and behavioral challenges. When families receive services from professionals who don’t understand their unique needs, the results can be more harmful than helpful, including recommendations to “give their children” back to the child welfare system. The reality is that access to adoption competent mental health services is a critical factor in promoting positive outcomes for adoptive families.
This webinar is designed to increase competency of mental health professionals in public, private or individual practice in meeting the mental health & developmental needs of this population. It will cover:
1) NTI guiding principles
2) NTI core competencies
3) Skills and tools to support enhanced adoption/permanency competency for mental health professionals
