The 19th annual Kids Adoption Network (KAN) conference was yet again, an event not to be missed! 185 parents and 85 children and teens in grades 1-12 attended and the reviews are in!
I have TEENAGERS (boy 11th grade and girl 12th grade) and to hear them STILL talking about their experience warms my heart. To have heard them say, they would like to return as a VOLUNTEER for the next conference blew my mind. They were elated to be in one location with so many other kids that UNDERSTOOD their journey.

In keeping with the theme of the day, “changing perspectives,” the children created their own kaleidoscopes using a variety of materials. They also spent time showing off their dancing skills with the local dance company group HYPE. Their favorite part of the day, however, was clearly the KAN carnival!
In their program, parents were captivated by the heartfelt, moving stories of our 16 panelists comprised of birth parents, adopted persons and adoptive parents. Stories of loss and grief, trauma, identity challenges, search and reunion were shared as well as the incredible wisdom that comes from successfully navigating the challenges of adoption. We are grateful for the courage and kindness of these wonderful men and women who gave their time to help our parents meet the needs of their children.
The teens had the opportunity to meet several of the panelists as well and we know it was an amazing experience for them. After reflecting on their own changing perceptions of adoption, they created a beautiful canvas which displays their feelings about adoption. We are thrilled and proud to have it hang in our Burtonsville office.
