Adoption influences and intensifies the normal developmental tasks adolescents must accomplish on the road to adulthood including separation from parents, identity formation and decisions relating to sexuality. Both at home and at school, struggles related to this extra layer of challenges can trigger mild and sometimes serious emotional/ behavioral issues for teen adoptees from ALL adoptive backgrounds, especially those who are being raised by parents of a different race or culture.
Using the workbook, Beneath the Mask: For Teen Adoptees: Teens and Young Adults Share Their Stories, C.A.S.E. CEO Debbie Riley, LCMFT, award-winning expert on adolescent mental health and author of Beneath the Mask: Understanding Adopted Teens, will explore “the six spots where teens get stuck” and equip mental health professionals with skills they need to support teen adoptees through the integration of the workbook in the therapeutic work.
Participants will earn 2 Continuing Education Credits for completing this training. A complimentary copy of the teen workbook will be mailed out to all participants following the training.
