I am a former foster youth and a teen mother to a 7 year old boy, Derek. We don’t have any biological family in the U.S. At one point we could have been deported, but thankfully the judge did not see that as a reasonable option. After aging our of the foster care and having to live independently without family support, the financial struggles became very difficult to overcome and as a result, my academics suffered.
Currently I serve in AmeriCorps while preparing to go back to school. 3L has helped me find safe, reliable housing and provides emotional support when needed. I consider 3L a second family.
My goal is to go back to college. I also want to start my own business and I have some great ideas! As a Peer Leader, I am committed to help other 3L members reach their goals.
I was in foster care for 12 years, living in two foster homes, a group home and then an apartment through independent living program. My mother was unable to care for me due to mental health issues. While in foster care, I had my first child, was able to finish high school and purchase a vehicle.
Currently I am attending college and receive emotional support, financial help and guidance from my 3L Coach.
I hope to obtain my bachelor’s degree from Towson University and apply to Masters’ programs that focus on business. In addition to continuing education, I want to move into stable and permanent housing. 3L has helped me to be a better student, a better parent, and a better person.
