Heather Beam is the Post-Adoption Support Coach with Children’s Home Society of Virginia. Heather has worked in the human services field for years – first with the deaf and hard of hearing population and now in the adoption and foster care realm. Being an adoptive mom herself, adoption and foster care is near and dear to her heart. She and her husband met at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville where Heather got both her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and her Master of Science in Counseling. They moved to Richmond in 2000 after a pitstop in Raleigh. Richmond has been so good to Heather and her family. She and her husband have six kids (four biological and two who were adopted internationally). Adoption has personally acquainted Heather with the effects of trauma in a child’s younger years. However, the science shows that the brain can be healed through loving connections with adults. That hope is why Heather feels called to work with adoptive families and loves the mission of Children’s Home Society of Virginia.
