Annual Giving
Your Contribution Will Help Change Lives
We have begun our 2006 Annual Giving Drive . Please
give. Your tax-deductible donation today will help
us make a difference in the life of a child.
As one of the few pre and post-adoption centers
in the country, we have counseled over 3,000
children and families on issues related to adoption
adjustment, unresolved
grief and loss, trauma and complex psychiatric diagnosis .
We have been awarded the 2005
Adoption Excellence Award by the U.S. Department
of Health and Human Services and were selected as
one of the Angels
in Adoption TM by the Congressional Coalition
on Adoption Institute in 2005.
Our families receive an
exceptional level of understanding and service ,
regardless of their financial abilities .
We depend on additional funding and grants since
counseling fees only cover 25% of our annual operating
costs .
As you would expect, we struggle to meet the number
of service requests we receive. Our continued success
depends upon greater support from our community..Donate

Honoring the Giver with our “Tree
of Giving”
We chose the tree as our logo because of its symbol in adoption:
each child grows strong because one family establishes
the roots and one family grows the branches . Our “Tree
of Giving” symbolizes that our strength grows from the
contributions of individuals like you. Beginning
with our 2005 Giving Campaign, we honor the giver
by engraving your name on a leaf in recognition of your contribution
to our growth.
Give the gift that last a lifetime: a gift from your family,
memorialize a loved on, honor a friend.

Early experiences
often traumatic

Over 49,000 children were adopted from foster care this year;
119,000 are still waiting. Almost 23,000 children were adopted
from international orphanages. These children’s early
experiences are often traumatic and can include:
- Sexual, emotional, physical abuse; neglect or
abandonment
- Care giving adults who have been drug or alcohol
addicted or mentally ill, unable to care for themselves,
let alone children
- Witnessing violence, even murder against a loved
one; death of a caregiver
- Multiple caregivers and moves both prior to and
subsequent to placement in foster care.
Adults expect children to move into adoptive placements
smoothly, easily settling into new lives…

Challenges
they face
Early trauma can be devastating to the healthy and successful development of
a child.
It can:
- Impair their ability to bond and attach to their
adoptive family
- Overwhelm them with feelings of loss and grief
- Create developmental issues as well as social-emotional
challenges
- Interfere with their ability to learn & make
it difficult to relate to others
When love is not enough
Early trauma can impair or cripple a child's ability to trust
and bond with their adoptive family. Children who suffer such
traumatic beginnings, and their adoptive families, need the
support and guidance of adoption competent specialists. Even
experienced and loving parents may struggle to help their
children heal.

What we are doing :
Early intervention and support is key to achieve success
for these adoptive families. Our experience validates the
need for adoption-centered therapeutic specialists. A large
percentage of the children we see at CASE have a history of
abuse and neglect. Nationally recognized for our contributions
and expertise in adoption issues, our award winning adoption-competent
staff understands the challenges these children face everyday.
Research supports the value of early intervention and specialized
support services for adoptive families. Without expert support,
the outcomes are less successful. Children who have been traumatized,
continue to struggle. At C .A .S .E. we use a proven adoption-centered
therapeutic approach for individual and family counseling.
Our programs are designed to:
- meet the challenging, complex needs of children
with early trauma
- promote strong, healthy attachments for adopted
children
- increase the stability of adoptive families as
children move into permanent homes
- educate parents, professionals and the community
about the unique joys and challenges in adoption
- share our expertise and knowledge by training
professionals
Our Accomplishments
To date in 2006, we have:
- completed over 2,390 counseling sessions
- educated more than 738 parents in workshops on
a variety of adoption topics
- trained more than 2,241 professionals including
child welfare workers, school personnel, judges
and pediatrician, about adoption-related issues
and how they impact children and families
